Marta Canfield, MD

Dr. Canfield became a doctor because she wanted to be able to help women like herself who had gone through frustrating medical experiences including not being heard by doctors. Sally Sartin, MD

About Me
Sally Sartin, MD

Dr. Sartin always wanted to be able to help the most vulnerable people, especially those who are suffering from medical disease. She believes that the doctor patient relationship is a two-way street and uses shared decision-making. Her goal is to treat patients the way she would a family or a friend. Robert Perlmuter, MD

About Me
Robert Perlmuter, MD

Dr. Perlmuter is a board-certified virtual primary care doctor with First Stop Health and has been practicing internal medicine for over 30 years. His favorite part about being a doctor is being able to help his patients, especially being able to help them understand their medical issues. Rachelle Hippen, MD

About Me
Rachelle Hippen, MD

Dr. Hippen was always interested in science as a child, and when she was very young, actually thought she wanted to be an astronaut. She decided to pursue medicine, and specifically, to work to ensure that as many people as possible had access to quality healthcare. This type of relationship can only come when patients are able to see the same provider consistently, and virtual primary care makes this much easier. She knows how busy life can get, so her goal is to remove as many barriers as possible to taking care of her patient's health.

FAQs

Things to Know

Virtual doctors can prescribe most medications prescribed by in-person primary care providers (with the exception of controlled substances). Our doctors often prescribe and refill medications for:

  • Ongoing conditions: high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, asthma, thyroid disorder and more
  • Sexual wellness: birth Control, erectile dysfunction, STIs and more
  • Common illnesses: cold & flu, sinus issues, skin rash and more
  • Mental health: anxiety, depression and more

Typically, employers provide First Stop Health’s services at little to no cost to you. Check the membership email or letter you received when your employer added you to their First Stop Health plan.  You can also contact your HR team, or just ask us when you call to request a visit.

First Stop Health is separate from your insurance. However, we may ask for your insurance information to find quality, affordable specialists and/or lab locations in your network.

Absolutely. We understand there's a lot at stake when it comes to the privacy of individual information. Therefore, we keep health information (i.e., medical information, diagnosis, medical treatment, etc.) protected to keep your identity safe.

That’s great! We often work with patients who already have an in-person primary care doctor. These patients love that they can get in quickly with a virtual doctor for prescription refills, lab orders, specialist referrals, personalized advice and more.

We can even share your visit summaries with other providers (of course, only if you want us to — and only with your permission).

Need a new cardiologist, gastroenterologist, psychiatrist or other specialist? We can help!  Here’s how referrals work:

  1. Talk to your doctor. During your virtual visit, your doctor may suggest a referral based on your symptoms and/or health history. You can also request a referral and discuss options with your doctor.

  2. Someone from your care team may reach out to ask for your preferences and insurance information. This will help us find quality, affordable options in your insurance network. You’re also welcome to tell us about any provider preferences you already have.

  3. Your care team will send your referral. After you receive your referral, you are free to schedule your own appointment. Be sure to confirm service prices according to your health insurance.

  4. Follow up with us! Let us know how it went in your secure Message Center or simply have another First Stop Health visit.  You can also allow your specialist to share the  results with us.

First Stop Health is separate from your insurance. We ask for insurance information to find you affordable options when you need specialty care.

Lab work – a test of your blood, urine or stool – can be an essential part of understanding what’s going on in your body. That’s why our doctors routinely order lab work to:

  • Check in on your health as part of your routine annual checkup
  • Test for nutritional deficiencies, infections and more
  • Check your cholesterol and blood sugar levels
  • Authorize prescription refills
  • And more

Here is how it works:

  1. Talk to your First Stop Health doctor. During your virtual visit, your doctor may suggest lab work based on your symptoms and/or health history. If you have a concern, you can also ask your doctor if lab work would be appropriate for you.
  2. Someone from your care team may reach out to ask for your preferences and insurance information. This will help us find the best in-network option lab for you.
  3. Your care team will send your lab order. Your lab order will tell you if you need to fast (stop eating and drinking for a certain amount of time) before your visit.
  4. Get your labs done. When you schedule your lab visit, be sure to confirm pricing according to your health insurance plan. Bring your ID and a paper copy of the lab order with you.
  5. It’s time for results! You can log into the lab company’s website to see your results online. You can also have a follow-up visit with your First Stop Health Virtual Primary Care doctor to receive the results of your lab order.

First Stop Health is separate from your insurance. We ask for insurance information to find you affordable options when in-person or specialty care is required.

If you need to coordinate outside care, we'll help you find quality, affordable options in your insurance network. Your First Stop Health doctor can provide, specialist referrals, lab orders and more. For any care outside of First Stop Health, costs according to your insurance plan will apply.
